Mr Paul S D'Urso

Mr Paul S D'Urso is an Australian
born and educated Neurosurgeon who graduated from the
University of Queensland Medical School with Honours
in 1988. Mr D'Urso completed 4 years of general surgical
training before undertaking PhD research to develop
the technology of stereolithographic biomodelling. Mr
D'Urso then went on to complete neurosurgical specialisation
in Brisbane and Auckland. After gaining a Neurosurgical
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
Mr D'Urso undertook additional advanced sub specialty
training in cerebrovascular and spinal surgery at the
prestigious Cambridge University Academic Neurosurgery
Unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in the United Kingdom.
Mr D'Urso was subsequently recruited to the Alfred Hospital
in Melbourne as a Consultant Neurosurgeon from 2001
to 2005. At the Alfred he was the Director of Cerebrovascular
Surgery and a foundation member of The Alfred Spine
Service. Recognised as one of Australia's leading Neurosurgeons
Mr D'Urso now practices exclusively in the private sector
and as a Senior Lecturer in the Monash University Department
of Surgery.
The success of Mr D'Urso's research has established
him as a world authority in neurosurgical technology.
He has published and presented over 90 scientific papers,
has been invited to speak at many international meetings,
and holds multiple international patents. Mr D'Urso's
research has also featured in both domestic and international
print and television media on numerous occasions and
he has won over 20 prestigious research awards and prizes
including the Medtronic International Young Inventor
Prize.
Recently, Mr D'Urso has successfully co-ordinated a
large Commonwealth funded research and development project
and a multi-centre international trial to further develop
biomodelling technology. Mr D'Urso is currently an investigator
in a large United States National Institute of Health
funded project investigating the genetics of intra-cranial
aneurysms, an Australian multi-centre project investigating
new treatments for severe head injuries, and a biomodelling
technology project at the Australian Centre for Healthcare
Innovation.
Mr D'Urso has been thoroughly trained in all aspects
of cranial and spinal neurosurgery and has particular
interest in the critical implementation of new neurosurgical
technologies and minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Mr D'Urso is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College
of Surgeons, and a member of the Neurosurgical Society
of Australasia, Spine Society of Australasia, Monash
Institute for Neurological Diseases, and the Australian
Medical Association.
Mr D'Urso consults privately at the prestigious Epworth
Centre in Richmond, Clarendon Street Specialist Centre
in Frankston, and at The Knox Private Hospital Consulting
Suites in Wantirna. Mr D'Urso operates exclusively at
the Epworth Private Hospital in Richmond.
